Blood glucose was critically low at 35 mg/dL. No additional acute findings were noted on the focused assessment. Assessment: Severe hypoglycemia with associated weakness. Plan: A 20G IV catheter was established in the right antecubital and saline locked. An EKG was performed and showed normal findings. The patient received D50 25 g via slow IV push. Repeat blood glucose following D50 administration increased to 132 mg/dL, demonstrating a positive response to treatment. Patient was transported to the closest emergency department. Report was given to the receiving ER nurse.
